Pinet polypropylene hinges: light weight - top performance
Pinet at the Shell Eco Marathon Europe 2011
  
Through its partnership with the Eco Motion Team of the Nancy Ecole Supérieure des Sciences et Technologies de l’Ingénieur, Pinet took part in the Shell Eco Marathon Europe 2011, held in Lausitz (Germany) from 23rd to 29th May 2011.
The Shell Eco Marathon is a worldwide educational programme organised by Shell since 1985. The objective is that students should build a vehicle that will cover the greatest possible distance, consuming the least possible energy and with the least possible CO2 emission.
The students forming the Eco Motion Team of the Nancy Ecole Supérieure des Sciences et Technologies de l’Ingénieur asked Pinet to supply hinges for the vehicle cover. They needed a light hinge, compatible with the ultra-light weight of their prototype, in order to achieve minimum energy consumption. To meet their requirement, Pinet supplied two hinges 54-7-3000 made of plastic, weighing only 5 g.
The ESSTIN Eco Motion Team’s Vir’volt project, equipped with Pinet hinges, took part in the Shell Eco Marathon Europe 2011, in the battery-powered electric prototype class, and achieved 2nd place of the 12 teams competing, covering 532 km per kWh.
